Jack
Martin was a saxophonist, reeds player and singer on
the Lawrence Welk Show from 1955 to 1959. Martin was
born in Nelsonville, Ohio on March 11, 1916. While
attending Ohio University in Athens, he began
playing professionally with bands including the Kay
Kyser band, Tommy Christian, Charlie Barnett, Ted
Lewis, Meredith Wilson and Charlie Hoff. He joined
the Welk show in 1955 and remained until 1959. After
leaving the show, he continued to play
professionally, including a 14-year stint at
Disneyland, with his own band
called the Pearly Band staring Jack Martin. He was
married to Victoria Martin. He passed away on
January 30, 1981.
